LaunchPad’s PA Workshop Unlocks Real Access to the Film Industry
On January 24, 2026, LaunchPad brought together over 50 students and emerging filmmakers in Norwalk, Connecticut for an immersive Production Assistant (PA) Workshop designed to do more than explain the film industry…. it opened doors to it.
Co-hosted by the SCT TV Festival and Lot48, and supported by the Connecticut Film Office alongside industry partners including Netflix, A&E, ITV America, Wheelhouse, and Northern Lights, the workshop embodied LaunchPad’s mission: not just teaching jobs, but unlocking access; and turning ambition into industry readiness!
Real Access, Real Conversations
Stephanie Leonard, Comedy Production Executive at Netflix
From the moment participants walked in, the energy was clear: motivated, curious, and ready to learn. Attendees represented a broad range of schools and creative backgrounds, united by a shared goal; breaking into the entertainment industry with clarity and confidence.
The day opened with “Real Talk” panels featuring producers, executives, and working PAs who demystified the industry and shared honest insights about navigating set culture, building relationships, and carving out sustainable careers. Among the speakers was Stephanie Leonard of Netflix, whose presence underscored the workshop’s unique value: direct access to industry leaders who are actively shaping the future of film and television.
Unlike traditional career events, the PA Workshop fostered an environment that felt personal, transparent, and grounded in reality.
A Rare Balance of Skill-Building and Mentorship
Throughout the day, attendees participated in hands-on training sessions covering essential PA skills: set etiquette, walkie-talkie communication, paperwork, logistics, safety, and on-set problem solving. These practical exercises were complemented by breakout sessions led by experienced professionals who shared real-world scenarios and advice.
As Christina Chironna, Founder and Executive Creative Director of 13 Degrees Studios, reflected:
“The LaunchPad program and PA Workshop strike a really rare balance between practical, on-set training and human mentorship. You walk away not just knowing how to do the job, but understanding how to navigate the industry as a person — how to communicate, adapt, and stay resilient in a fast-moving environment. It feels like a true entry point into the real world of production.”
Victoria Ritz echoed the optimism felt throughout the day:
“Participating in the LaunchPad PA Workshop was genuinely energizing. Connecting with students and hearing how passionate they are about breaking into the industry gave me real hope. They’re curious, eager, and willing to put in the work. That’s exactly the kind of next generation our industry needs.”
Where Learning Meets Opportunity
Beyond training, the workshop created tangible opportunities. The networking lunch and professional headshots emerged as standout moments, giving participants both the confidence and the tools to present themselves professionally. Resume reviews, portfolio feedback, and elevator pitch coaching helped bridge the gap between aspiration and action.
The impact was immediate: many participants signed up for LaunchPad programs, made meaningful industry connections, and began securing gigs and entry-level opportunities following the event. While long-term success stories are still unfolding, the momentum is undeniable.
Building the Next Generation of Entertainment Talent
The PA Workshop reflects LaunchPad’s broader vision: expanding access to the entertainment industry for young people who are often excluded from traditional pipelines. By bringing executives, creatives, and emerging talent into the same room, LaunchPad is building a more inclusive and prepared workforce — one workshop at a time.
As the film and television industry continues to evolve, programs like this are not just supplemental…. they are essential. LaunchPad’s PA Workshop proved that when young creatives are given real access, honest guidance, and practical tools.
